Q: How much does a visit cost, and what is the minimum booking length?
A: Sessions are charged at £22.00 per hour with a minimum duration of 1 hour—ideal for unhurried conversation, a cuppa, or pottering in the garden. For outings, trips, or appointments, we will agree in advance if a 1.5, 2-hour, or longer slot is best so you are never rushed.
Q: Can I use Attendance Allowance or Direct Payments to pay for visits?
A: Yes, absolutely. Many clients fund visits using Attendance Allowance, a tax-free, non-means-tested benefit designed to support independence at home and in the community. I also accept local authority Direct Payments / Personal Budgets (e.g., from Leeds Adult Social Care) where you arrange your own support. I provide detailed, itemised weekly or monthly invoices that satisfy council audit and record-keeping requirements.
Q: What happens if I need to cancel or reschedule a visit?
A: I kindly ask for at least 24 hours’ notice for cancellations so time slots can be managed fairly. Sessions cancelled with less than 24 hours’ notice may be charged, though acute illnesses and sudden emergencies are always handled with understanding and compassion.
Q: Do you charge for travel to my home?
A: No. Travel to and from your home is completely free within my core local area (Allerton Bywater, Kippax, Garforth, Swillington, Oulton, Methley, Woodlesford, Rothwell, and Carlton). The clock only begins once I arrive at your door. For homes situated outside of these areas, a small travel charge of 55p per mile may apply to cover additional travel time and fuel—however, please contact me to discuss your location, as this isn’t always necessary depending on the schedule and route!
Q: What kind of car will we travel in?
A: We travel in a modern, fully insured 100% electric crossover. With its comfortable medium height, stepping in and out is easy and natural without awkward climbing or dropping low. It provides a quiet, smooth ride and can be pre-warmed or pre-cooled before departure for maximum comfort.
Q: How does mileage work when we go out on trips or appointments?
A: Local trips during our session (such as popping to local shops, cafes, or short strolls within a few miles) are included in the regular hourly fee. For longer excursions further afield, an additional 55p per mile is added to cover travel costs. All planned outings are discussed and agreed upon together beforehand.
Q: Who covers venue entry fees, refreshments, or parking?
A: Where an outing requires admission tickets or parking charges, these are covered by the client or family (including my entry ticket so I can accompany you). For café stops and meals, I always purchase my own food and drinks unless you kindly choose to offer.
Q: Do you provide personal care or medical assistance?
A: No, this is strictly a non-clinical companionship service. I do not assist with personal hygiene (washing, dressing, bathing, toileting) or administer medical treatments. My focus is entirely on social connection, emotional wellbeing, routine, gentle fresh air, and enjoyable outings.
Q: Can you accompany more than one person on an outing?
A: Yes! While support is primarily one-to-one, by prior agreement I can happily accompany a couple or two friends together to a local community group, coffee morning, or social outing.
Q: Do you take photographs during visits?
A: With your permission, I love capturing pleasant moments during our visits to share with family or, if agreed, on my official Facebook page ("Rachelle Taylor - Independent Wellbeing Companion"). Photo consent is completely optional and can be withdrawn at any time.
